Hutchison Port Holdings, one of the largest independent port operators in the world, owns and operates the Port of Harwich, one of the busiest passenger ports in the UK.

The port is located in Essex, on the east coast of the UK, on the south side of the River Stour. It has recently been modernised and is considered to be one of the most important of the UK’s North Sea ports.




Currently, international ferry services connect Harwich with Esbjerg in Denmark and also with the Hook of Holland. Locally, there are foot passenger ferry and water taxi services connecting Harwich with Shotley and Felixstowe. A large number of cruise ships now call at Harwich, and continue on to destinations worldwide including ports in Britain, the North Cape, the Baltic Sea, Scandinavia and the Mediterranean. The terminal facilities have been recently renovated and provide spacious lounges, shops, a bureau de change and cafés and restaurants in air-conditioned surroundings. There is also an efficient and streamlined check-in system, significantly reducing waiting times for foot and vehicul passengers.

Passengers with special needs will find parking bays designated for those with disabilities, unisex disabled persons’ toilet facilities on the first level of the terminal building, wheelchairs available on request and level or ramped access at all entrances and exits.

Ample short-term and long-term parking is available at the port. Tickets are issued by machine and the parking fee is payable at machines located in the Arrivals Hall as well as in the car park.

Currently, there are international ferry services from Harwich to Denmark and Holland. The Stena Line operates multiple daily ferry services to and from the Hook of Holland. The route to Esbjerg, Denmark is run by DFDS Seaways, with three to four crossings weekly in both directions. Both lines offer service to foot passengers and vehicles. The local foot ferry provides seasonal service between Harwich’s Ha’penny Pier and Shotley and Felixstowe, weather permitting, and a water taxi service is also available.
